This weekend Auckland city hosted a Diwali Festival. Also known as the Festival of Lights. For Hindus this is one of the most important celebrations. It was really cool to experience the culture through food, music and entertainment.

On Sunday night they ended the festival with fireworks! As they we waited for it to get dark different groups performed some traditional dances. We were standing in a massive crowd in front of the stage. It was packed and being 5’2 most of what I saw was the backs of people’s heads. I’m pretty used to it, BUT I was not used to some guy trying to pick me up onto his shoulders! But with me repeating ‘no no no’, it didn’t get to far. It was really neat to experience the excitement coming from the crowd. Even though I didn’t know the music or what the people were saying I could still feel the joy. Someone told me that Diwali is like Christmas. And I definitely felt that feeling I feel in the Christmas season.

While in the city we walked down to the Viaduct Harbour. We discovered a fish market, an outdoor library, pipe chairs and gorgeous views of the water! See for yourself!
